The Mark of the Dragonfly
Jaleigh Johnson

"There, aren't you pretty?" she said.
Pretty? Piper supposed so. If Gee saw her now for the first time, he would never know she was a scrapper. Well, until she opened her mouth. Anyway, wasn't this what she wanted? To shed all the vestiges of the scrap town and her old life? She'd never felt more disconnected from them than she did at this moment. So why did it feel so wrong?

I find this quote to be important because it portrays some of the protagonist's emotions and uncertainties. She wants to abandon her old life where she was poor and life felt hopeless, haunted by memories of her late father. But now that she has the chance to do so, she isn't happy.
