This book is about how a boy named Matt and his two sisters, Emmy and Callie, are being abused by his mother. What happens is one time Matt and his sister Callie go out one day and see a man that helps another little boy that was about to be slapped by his dad. The man's name was Murdoch, he inspired Matt. Matt said that one day Murdoch could help them, and one day he did. He started to date the mother and the Mother was way happier and wasn’t so abusive towards the kids. But one time Murdoch found out about the abuse and they broke up and she started to get abusive again. Then the whole book took you through how they got away from the mother, with Murdoch's, Matt’s dad and their Aunt bobbie’s help. Emmy was so young that she didn’t really remember so Matt is “writing” a book/letter for her when she gets older. Matt said he read a book recently about fear and how it's a gift at the beginning of the book. So he took a sentence from the book saying that it was a gift and said “But he doesn’t talk about what happens to your gift of fear when you live with the feeling all the time” and that was the quote that I thought best fit the story and Matt, on page 8. It was the beginning of telling us that he lived in fear of his mother, but later on he got over it. Which shows how the character grew, and I feel like that really means something. He was so scared of his own mother and the abuse that happened so much that he became accustom to it. But as he grew the fear started to vanish from the help of others of course but it's amazing what can happen to people at such a young age.
