"IT happened. There is no avoiding it, no forgetting. No running away, or flying, or burying, or hiding."

I believe these sentences would make an excellent quote because it says that what happened has happened, and you cannot change that. You can't run from it or forget about whatever has happened, you must deal with it. Whether that is speaking up for yourself, or just accepting what has happened. In the book, Melinda says this referring to it as a tragic event that happened during the summer, but it can be applied to many other things as well.
