Hello incoming 8th Graders!

I can't believe it is already August! I hope everyone has been having a wonderful summer! I have been having a great time relaxing, going to the beach, and spending time with my dog Roxy. I have also read many great books so far this summer. Here are a few of them...

This book is science fiction/dystopian, which usually isn't the genre of book that peaks my interest, but it was on my reading list, so I figured I would give it a try. So far so good. Red Rising takes place on Mars in the future and is a about a man named Darrow who is a Red. Reds are the lowest people work in mines and are told that their hard work will make life better for the people of the future. Little does Darrow know, the Reds have been betrayed. Humanity has already reached the surface of Mars years and years ago. All the work the Reds are doing is for absolutely nothing. Now it is time for Darrow to bring down the enemies by becoming one of them.

"I live for the dream that my children will be born free. That they will be what they like. That they will own the land their father gave them?" p.34
This quote is extremely significant and is said by Darrow's wife, Eo. She is the one who leads Darrow to the truth about what is happening above the mines. She sees how smart he is and she knows what he can do to make a change. It's time for Darrow to step forward and he ends up learning this the hard way.

Lastly, I wanted to give a big thumbs up to Keira L. & Piper S. for being the first two to complete their summer reading assignment 😀 I will continue to post your assignments as they come in, so keep them coming. Remember, all summer assignments are due by the first day of school. I'm very excited to meet you all August 29th!
