"I looked out my window and put all my attention on keeping the tears from seeping out from under my eyelids. Just gelato wasn't going to cut it. I wanted the love part too." p.323
I feel this quote is important to the story because the protagonist, Lina, is told that when people stay in Italy it is because of gelato and love. When her mother dies, Lina is sent to Italy to live with with the man her mother fell in love with. Through her adventures in sightseeing, exploring, and trying to find her real dad, she soon falls in love with bacio flavored gelato and a boy named Red. However, Lina has a hard time having a relationship with men because of his ex and an awkward moment between them. This quote drives her to want the two things Italy is famous for and why her mother had wanted to stay in Italy. Lina can have all of the gelato she wants, but to get the experience her mother wanted her to have and for her mothers wishes for Lina to understand why she was sent to Italy, she must get the boy of her dreams and have the best summer of her life.
