"Breathe, Maya...just breathe." p.101
This quote is important to the book because Maya does have breathing problems, but Cat her older sister was already afraid of the ghosts and didn't want Maya anywhere near them, proving Cat's point right at the time that ghosts are not friendly and want to hurt humans.
This book is teaching you to face your fears and conquer them. Cat was deathly afraid of ghosts. Soon her sister Maya was struggling more with her breathing after the ghosts "attacked" her and was rushed to the hospital. Maya wanted to keep going out and seeing/finding the ghosts, Cat did not. Around Halloween time, there was a great get together with the whole neighborhood. Cat saw the ghost and made friends with them. She got over her fears, but just her little sister helping her.
