“I didn't need to transform after all. My name is Harriet Manners and I am a geek. And maybe that's not so bad after all.”

I found this quote important and empowering, because it shows huge character development. At the beginning of the book, and throughout the book, Harriet Manners is a geek, and is bullied because of it. At one point, someone graffities her school bag, writing “geek” in big, red sharpie, and it really upsets Harriet to be labeled like that. She wonders if it’s such a bad thing, and it really affects her self esteem. She feels that becoming a model will “transform” her, and maybe raise her rank in the social hierarchy. I think this quote was important because it shows her finally accepting herself and realizing she doesn't need to change herself, that she's okay the way she is.
