"Halfway up the northern wall of the valley, they were long past exhaustion. Pure will and fear of capture drove their bodies now." p.176

I think this quote is very important especially during World War 2 where people who lived in Nazi Europe lived in fear of being taken away from their families. Then, soldiers being sent over there could be exhausted to the point where they couldn't even walk. But they kept going through will and fear because they knew it was best.
