I think this quote is important because it is true, when you are very close to someone, it seems like they are always with you. Even if they leave you, they are still there. I think it is also important to the book because when Sloane leaves Emily all alone, and Emily has no clue where Sloane is, she (Emily) can still sense Sloane's presence. Like when Emily does something Sloane would have done, she can imagine what Sloane would have said or done in that moment.
