Counting by 7's: By, Holly Goldberg Sloan

Quote: "I return to the stairs, and as I sit here in a slice of winter sunlight, two small birds find their way down to the honeysuckle planted next to the bamboo. They speak to me, not in words, but in action. They tell me that life goes on." (page 378)

This quote clearly interprets what Counting by 7's is trying to deliver to the reader. Even though Willow has to deal with the grief and distress that comes with the death of her parents, she realizes toward the end of the novel that life does indeed go on. This is a great moral expressed through the innocent eyes of adolescence.
