Prisoner B-3087

“To suffer quietly is to hurt only you.”

This explains the way of life in a prison camp. If in every way possible you try to not bring attention to yourself then you, with luck, will find yourself getting out alive. A lot of luck actually. The second part of the quote is, “To suffer loudly and fight back, is to hurt others around you.” In one instance, a few prisoners tried to escape. The Nazis role called everybody out to make them stand until the others were found. When the others were found, they were beaten to death. But it did not stop there. Every single person that worked with the now dead prisoners were shot.  Then the Nazis officer opened fire on all the other prisoners until his gun was empty.
